Plan a day trip to downtown Canton, GA

The short answer

Canton is the Cherokee County seat on I-575, about 40 miles north of Atlanta. The City's directions use Exit 16 from the south and Exit 20 from the north, and both end at Cannon Park on East Main Street. Park free downtown, walk the square, the marble courthouse and the theatre block, eat on Main Street, then add The Mill on Etowah or the river parks. The planner below sets the walking order.

Frontal view across a street of a white marble neoclassical building: two-storey wings with tall wood-framed windows flank a recessed entrance behind four tall columns, under an inscribed frieze and a parapet topped by four carved stone eagles and a central cartouche; a taller plain block rises behind. Steps with brass handrails lead to a door numbered '100'. A Georgia historical marker headed 'CHEROKEE COUNTY GOLD' stands on the lawn at the right, a sandwich board sits on the wide sidewalk, clipped hedges line the base, and the sky is blue with big white clouds.
