  • Looking down a red herringbone-brick sidewalk past a tall tan-brick commercial building on the left whose shop windows and upper openings are boarded with plywood. Black lamp posts and a leaning utility pole carry wires overhead; a white-flowering crape myrtle and green street trees line the street. Angled parking bays are painted on the empty asphalt; a pickup truck waits at an intersection with yellow pedestrian-crossing signs, a red-brick two-storey building stands across the street, and the 'THEATRE' blade sign and 'CANTON' marquee of the cinema appear at the right edge under a blue sky with cumulus clouds.

  • Head-on view of a cream Art Deco cinema facade: a tall vertical blade sign spells 'THEATRE' in purple letters, flanked by round porthole windows and a strip of glass block. Below it a marquee carries red 'CANTON' letters and a changeable-letter board reading 'CANTON MUSIC SHOPPE RECITAL / JUNE 12 6PM $5'. Glass entry doors sit between two poster cases on a dark red tiled base. Two leafy street trees frame the building, a black lamp post with a '2HR PARKING' sign stands at the curb, red-brick shopfronts with awnings flank it, a bench sits at the right, an overhead wire crosses a pale summer sky and an empty parking lane fills the foreground.

A small 'County Court House' sits on its own block, with the 'Hotel Canton' across from it. To the left are a boxed 'City Water Works' with a 1,000,000-gallon reservoir, a Methodist church, 'Riverdale Public School' and blocks of yellow frame dwellings along Riverdale, Woleska and Midway streets, with a compass rose and scale bar.

  • A straight-down colour aerial photograph, mostly leaf-off. The Etowah River enters along the left edge, bends and runs east across the middle of the frame in a wooded corridor. South of the river a compact grid of downtown streets holds flat-roofed commercial blocks and parking lots, with long white-roofed industrial buildings along a rail line to its west and a green field at the lower left. North of the river a highway lined with big white-roofed shopping buildings and parking lots crosses the frame, with lawns laced with curving paths, an oval field and large warehouse roofs at the right. Wooded hills cover the east, and residential streets fill the south.
