Canton First Fridays: 2026 in review and what we know of 2027

The short answer

Canton's 2026 First Friday season is over. The City held six free evenings downtown, on May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4 and Oct. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. around Cannon Park. There is no First Friday in November or December. The City has not posted 2027 dates; if it keeps its May to October pattern, the opener would be May 7, 2027.

A white octagonal gazebo with a green copper dome stands at the junction of red herringbone-brick paths across a mown lawn. US flags fly from its roof and from tall flagpoles at the left, white wrought-metal benches sit inside it, and a black slatted metal bench and a low brick wall occupy the right foreground. Behind trees and dark red shrubs stands a pale multi-storey stone building with tall windows; a small evergreen and leafy trees fill the middle ground under a bright sky with cumulus cloud.

If you searched for a First Friday in Canton this fall, you may have landed on an event page that no longer exists. Explore Canton removes its event pages after the date, so its listings for the September and October 2026 First Fridays now return Page Not Found. This page keeps a record of the 2026 season and says plainly what has and has not been posted for 2027.

What is First Friday in Canton?

The City holds First Fridays on the first Friday of each month from May through October, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Downtown Canton, with live music, food and late shopping. It is free. The City’s May 1, 2026 listing put it at Cannon Park, 130 East Main Street, with food and drink vendors along Main Street, and added a Kids Zone and a cruise-in.

What happened in the 2026 season?

Six evenings, each listed on the City calendar at 6 p.m. Explore Canton’s April 27, 2026 lineup post named the bands. For July we could not confirm the act from a second source, so we leave it blank rather than guess.

  • Fri., May 1, 2026: The Purple Madness
  • Fri., June 5, 2026: The Molly Ringwalds
  • Fri., July 3, 2026: act not confirmed by a second source, so we leave it out
  • Fri., Aug. 7, 2026: Nashville Nation
  • Fri., Sept. 4, 2026: Emerald Empire Band
  • Fri., Oct. 2, 2026: On the Border, the season close

The Oct. 2 evening closed the season. All six dates have passed.

Is there a First Friday in November or December?

No. The City’s season runs May through October, and nothing in its pattern covers the winter months. Downtown still has evenings out on the calendar, they are just not First Fridays. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Canton Theatre at 171 E. Main St. has a comedy show at 8 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 4, which is the first Friday of December, the theatre opens A Dickens’ Christmas Carol at 8 p.m. That is a ticketed play, not a street event.

Where did people park, and how did the shuttle work?

Explore Canton’s 2026 posts said entry and parking were free, but street parking on East Main Street was not available on First Friday evenings. Its parking guide warns that street parking and lots around Main Street may be limited on event days. The two-level Canton Downtown Parking Deck at 345-303 W. Marietta St. has 102 spaces, and Explore Canton counts about 118 spaces along Elizabeth Street behind the Police Department, part of which is kept for City employees.

Explore Canton also described a free park-and-ride shuttle from The Mill on Etowah, with pickup at the flag pole there. And one rule regulars learned: lawn chairs could not be set out before 7 a.m. on show day. Nobody has said yet whether the shuttle or the chair rule will carry over to 2027. Our parking page and Mill on Etowah guide have more.

When will First Fridays come back in 2027?

The City has not posted 2027 dates or a lineup as of Oct. 18, 2026. If it keeps the first Friday of each month from May to October, the 2027 dates work out as below. This is our arithmetic from the calendar, not an announcement:

  • Fri., May 7, 2027
  • Fri., June 4, 2027
  • Fri., July 2, 2027
  • Fri., Aug. 6, 2027
  • Fri., Sept. 3, 2027
  • Fri., Oct. 1, 2027

In 2026 the lineup post went up on April 27, a few days before the May opener. If 2027 runs the same way, check the City’s First Fridays page and Explore Canton in late April.

What else is on downtown this fall?

With First Fridays done for the year, the theatre and The Mill carry the calendar: The Shining at the theatre on Oct. 23, the Jack O’ Lantern Jamboree at The Mill on Oct. 24 and 25, and holiday events from late November. Our events calendar has them all, the Canton Theatre page lists every show, and the holiday season page tracks the dates the City has not posted yet. The standing guide to the series is our First Fridays page.
